New Urbanism is a design philosophy intended to create a strong sense of community by incorporating features of traditional small towns. Like the cities and towns of decades ago, mixed-use is infused into residential developments making it possible to live, work, play, shop, dine and attend school in the same area.

New Urbanist communities encourage diversity, provide easy access to public transit and are pedestrian-friendly. They include public and community spaces that foster interaction and are characterized by a respect for nature, history, and architectural standards.
