The Arcade at Downtown Framingham

The Arcade at Downtown Framingham is a mixed-use project involving the redevelopment of the historic Amsden, Arcade, Mullaney, and Prindiville buildings, which currently contains a mixture of retail, commercial, and residential space. This project is an excellent example of smart growth development because it reuses a previously developed site, and does not require extensive infrastructure improvements or extensions. It is proximate to existing public transportation, and has a strong economic and housing connection. Overall, the project effectively balances the need for economic growth and revitalization while maintaining critical environmental resources.

The Arcade at Downtown Framingham project involves the construction of a 400,000 square-foot mixed-use development comprised of 260 residential units, 40 extended stay hotel units, and 50,000 square-feet of commercial/office space. Site design and layout improvements include the creation of landscaped courtyards and pathways, an on-site swimming pool, rooftop gardens, construction of a six-level parking structure, and the extension of an existing arcade within the Arcade building. Streetscape improvements will include a two sidewalks plaza, shade trees, lighting and benches.

Beals and Thomas, Inc. responsibilities include master planning, survey services, environmental site assessment, design of stormwater management systems and utility infrastructure, landscape architecture, local/state permitting, and completion of the MEPA process.
