In 1999, Old Sturbridge Village embarked on a facilities expansion and improvement program, which focused on approximately 17 acres containing the Visitor's Center and adjacent parking areas. The program included relocation of the entrance, creation of additional visitor parking with handicapped access and improved landscaping to incorporate details matching the unique style of the Village, expansion of the bookstore, enhanced entry lobbies, an information kiosk, and creation of the 290-seat tavern.

Beals and Thomas provided site engineering, landscape design, regulatory assistance and construction services in support of the Village's expansion and improvement program. Project elements included survey services and site plan revisions, design of sewer, water, and electrical utilities, grading and earthworks, value engineering, design of stormwater management basins for enhancement of stormwater runoff quality, delineation of wetland resource areas, and resolution of concerns raised by the Army Corps of Engineers.
