The Courtyard at Night

The Village Green

Beals and Thomas, Inc. was retained by Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide for the site design and permitting of two hotels on a site just off Interstate 95, adjacent to the historic Minute Man National Historical Park where a Revolutionary War battlefield, its environs, context, and its views are of great concern to the town and the National Park Service. Beals and Thomas, Inc. played a major role in discussions with numerous agencies to resolve architectural, site planning, traffic mitigation, and public transportation concerns. To that end, Beals and Thomas, Inc. has performed land surveys, created photo composites, conducted viewshed analyses, and performed ridgeline studies, all to address concerns and assure sufficient buffering for the adjacent historic site. Our landscape architects designed a Village Green between the two hotels as an attractive pedestrian space that echoes the character of a historic town common (see image bottom left) and provides the opportunity for interpretive exhibits about other historic destinations in Lexington. Our landscape architects prepared a plan and perspective showing how to soften and enhance a proposed rock outcropping into an interesting landscape feature (see image top left). The project was recently approved at Town Meeting, and Starwood is advancing plans for construction.
